More than 5,000 people participated in a centenary marathon organised by the Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda at the HMDA Grounds in Hyderabad on Sunday, marking 100 years of the historic Sikh institution in Hyderabad. Organised under the theme ‘Run for Faith, Run for Sewa’, the event featured 3K and 5K runs and a Family Walkathon, bringing together children, youngsters, families and senior citizens from across Telangana.
The morning began with a warm-up and Zumba session before prominent Sikh personalities flagged off the runs. Participants in the 3K run proceeded towards People’s Plaza while those in the 5K run continued towards Jal Vihar.
Founded in 1926, Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda has been an important centre of spiritual, cultural and community activity for the Sikh community in Hyderabad. The centenary celebrations are being held under the theme ‘One Family, One Panth, One Sangat, One Community and One Historic Celebration’.
A series of religious, cultural and community programmes are planned during the centenary year. The September programme will include Akhand Path Sahib, the continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib, Kirtan Darbar featuring devotional music and Amrit Sanchar, the Sikh initiation ceremony.
