Iran war news LIVE Updates: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that he will hold a press conference on Monday to explain new US sanctions against Iran, which will be the "toughest” in history.

He said the US will soon unveil its plan to economically isolate Iran and its trading partners, after President Donald Trump threatened Tehran and others with an "ECONOMIC D-DAY" to end the current stalemate in the Middle East.

Iran dismissed the threat on Sunday, saying sanctions are an “implicit admission of the enemy’s humiliating defeat,” according to its state media.

Bessent touts ‘endgame’ with Iran as US turns to economic war

The United States is entering the “endgame” of its confrontation with Iran,Tr easury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday, pledging to sever every remaining economic lifeline to Tehran in what he described as an “economic D-Day.”

“At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshalled against an adversary,” Bessent wrote in an opinion piece for the Financial Times.

Iran warns vessels violating protocols for Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PGSA) warned vessels violating its protocols for the Strait of Hormuz that they could face restrictions on future passages, including fines, detention or confiscation.

In a post on X on Monday, the PGSA said, "Vessels violating Iranian protocols for the Strait of Hormuz shall face restrictions on future passages, including fines, detention, or confiscation."

The authority also warned that vessels cooperating with ships already listed as non-compliant would themselves be added to the list.

"Effective immediately, any vessel cooperating with listed vessels (via STS, transshipment, etc.) will be added to the list," PGSA said.

Iran had on Sunday said that vessels from "authorised" countries transiting the Strait of Hormuz will now be required to pay service fees to Tehran.

US forces redirect 70 vessels during Iran blockade

US forces have redirected 70 commercial vessels, disabled three and boarded two since enforcing a naval blockade against Iran, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

In a post on X, CENTCOM said, “A U.S. Sailor monitors flight operations aboard USS John Finn (DDG 113) as the guided-missile destroyer sails in the Arabian Sea and enforces the U.S. blockade against Iran. As of Aug. 23, U.S. forces have redirected 70 commercial vessels, disabled 3 and boarded 2 to ensure compliance.”
