The West Bengal Cyber Crime Wing has launched Operation Cyber Prahar, a coordinated statewide operation targeting cybercrime hotspots and networks allegedly facilitating cyber fraud across the state.

The operation, led by S4C, West Bengal Cyber Crime Wing, is based on actionable intelligence and focuses on identifying and disrupting the wider ecosystem supporting cybercrime.

According to the Cyber Crime Wing, 69 FIRs have been registered and 107 people arrested during the first seven days of the operation. Of the total arrests, 40 were made by the West Bengal Cyber Crime Wing, with these arrests reflected under the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

The authorities have put the fraudulent amount involved at Rs 92.664 crore.

As part of the statewide crackdown, enforcement teams have also raided three fake call centres allegedly linked to cyber-fraud networks.

The raids were conducted across West Bengal, including areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police.

The operation is not limited to identifying individual accused persons. Investigators are also focusing on the financial and logistical infrastructure allegedly used to facilitate cyber fraud.

The coordinated action is aimed at identifying networks and disrupting the channels through which fraudulent transactions are allegedly routed.

The Cyber Crime Wing said Operation Cyber Prahar will continue across West Bengal as part of its sustained action against organised cybercrime and its supporting ecosystem.

The operation represents a coordinated effort to target not only alleged perpetrators but also the financial accounts, communication channels and other infrastructure allegedly used to execute and facilitate cyber fraud.

Citizens can protect themselves from cyber fraud by being cautious of phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp messages, and emails that claim their voter ID will be closed or has expired, or that KYC updates are required. It is also advisable to verify the registration status of SMS sender headers by sending them to 1909.
