An 18-year-old youth who jumped from a cliff in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district following a quarrel with his father had attempted suicide from the same location in 2025, police said.

The latest incident took place at Khavda Hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Friday morning. The teenager, identified as Kunal Chandwade, had reached the hill around 10 am and remained near the edge of a 400-500-foot cliff for nearly three hours despite repeated attempts by his parents, villagers, police and fire brigade personnel to persuade him to move to safety.

Teen Remained Near Cliff Edge For Three Hours

According to the report, Kunal continued to stand close to the edge of the hill as people at the spot tried to convince him to step back.

His mother kept speaking to him and pleading with him to move away from the edge. Meanwhile, rescuers deployed safety nets below the cliff in an effort to prevent a tragedy.

However, the teenager repeatedly shifted his position, making it difficult for the rescue teams to safely reach or persuade him.

Quarrel Over iPhone EMI Under Probe

The incident reportedly followed a quarrel between Kunal and his father. Police are examining whether an argument over an iPhone EMI was the only trigger behind the teenager’s extreme step or whether other factors may have contributed.

As the investigation continues, authorities are also looking into the teenager’s previous attempt from the same location in 2025.

Parents Also Died In The Incident

Kunal’s father, Murlidhar, and mother, Sangeeta, also died in the incident, with all three reportedly dying within moments of each other.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths are being examined by police as part of the ongoing investigation.

The revelation that Kunal had previously attempted suicide from the same spot has added a new dimension to the case. Police are now looking into the events leading up to both incidents and the circumstances that may have contributed to the latest tragedy.
